Thus was born the monstrous I Class 2-10-0 Decapod. It dwarfed all previous 2-10-0s, weighing in at 386,100 pounds, with a power output 41% higher and steam consumption 12% lower than the Mikados that were previously assigned to coal and ore duty. Pennsy heartily approved of the new design and ultimately had the Baldwin and Juniata shops build 598 Class I1s.

These hulking engines were designed specifically for use in the mountainous Allegheny region of western Pennsylvania, and they hauled freight through that area like nothing the PRR had seen before. The typical assignment called for two Decapods at each end of every freight train, and despite their enormous size and weight, they were allowed to move at up to fifty miles per hour.

M.T.H. is proud to bring the ground-shaking power of the Pennsylvania 2-10-0 to your railroad with Proto-Sound 3.0 and an all-new wireless drawbar.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1011/0560/files/4D6764E5-B311-4716-9A0B-C7B791640CF1_1_102_o.jpg?v=1761762318
l-2426050
Lionel 2426050 - Freightsounds PS-1 Boxcar "Illinois Central Gulf" #416224

Announced Date:

Jan 2024

Released Date:

Nov 2024

Individually Boxed:

No - 3 to a case

Road Number: 416224

Gauge: O Gauge

Power: Electric

Min Curve: O31

Dimensions: Length: 11 1/4"

Most Recent Catalog: 2024 Volume 1 Catalog

Features:

Die-cast trucks

Operating couplers with hidden uncoupling tabs

Easy conversion to scale couplers and wheels (available separately)

Plays rail clatter in motion

Different doors/ladders per prototype

Max/Min switch and volume control

Overview:

Our FreightSounds Boxcars remain popular, and this year's batch will catch your eye and your ear! Chessie, Burlington, ICG and RF&P cars feature lowered ladders and lack roof walks matching their look in the final decades of service for these reliable old 40 footers! This was reflected in both the arts and in industrial design, where the Art Deco influence – subdued during the Great Depression - was transformed into the Streamline Moderne style. Everything from buildings to automobiles to railroad passenger cars began to move away from a dependence on vertical shapes and geometric designs toward a much more horizontal, curved style featuring modern materials such as welded (not riveted) stainless steel which emphasized power through speed, not solidity. Thus was born the era of the Great Streamliners: the Union Pacific M-10000, the Burlington Zephyrs, and of course the Electro-Motive Corporation’s E Series of road diesels. EMC had produced several “covered wagon” E designs through the 1930s (EA through E5), but in relatively limited numbers. In 1939, the 2000 horsepower E-6 was the first (and, interestingly, the last before becoming the Electro-Motive Division of General Motors) to be produced in mass quantities, totaling 91 A units and 26 B units produced between November of 1939 and September of 1942, when production of new locomotives was halted due to the War Effort. These featured the now iconic streamlined slant-nose and aerodynamic surfaces and were matched with the new streamlined passenger train sets produced by Pullman Standard and Budd for the famous name trains such as the Union Pacific “City” trains, the Illinois Central “Panama Limited”, and the Milwaukee Road “Hiawathas”.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1011/0560/files/30138648_1a28ced3-e897-4a2f-b991-55988b1b07ae.jpg?v=1748043005
ao-3001952
Atlas O 3001952 - Premier - 70' Streamlined Passenger Car Set "Illinois Central" (4-Car)

Announced Date:

May 2025

Released Date:

Est. 1st Quarter 2026

Individually Boxed:

N/A

Road Name: Illinois Central

Road Number:

70' Streamlined Baggage - 1801

70' Streamlined Sleeper - Blue Grass State

70' Streamlined Sleeper - King Coal

70' Streamlined Observation - Memphis

Product Line: Premier

Scale: O Scale

System: 3-Rail

Features:

Intricately Detailed, Durable ABS Bodies

Stamped Metal Floors

Detailed Car Undercarriage

Colorful, Attractive Paint Schemes

Metal Wheels and Axles

Die-Cast 4-Wheel Trucks

Fast-Angle Wheel Sets

Needle-Point Axles

(2) Operating Die-Cast Metal Couplers

O Scale Kadee-Compatible Coupler Mounting Pads

Constant Voltage Overhead LED Interior Lighting

End-of-Car Diaphragms

Separate Metal Handrails

Detailed Car Interiors

Sliding Baggage Car Doors

Detailed Brake Wheel

1:48 Scale Proportions

Unit Measures: 19” x 2 7/16” x 3 1/2”

Operates On O-42 Curves

Overview:

The 1930’s ushered in a “sea change” in the concept of passenger car design. In particular the Pullman Standard or PS-1 design was one of the most popular and was widely used by North American railroads. Pullman had been making freight cars for more than half a century when it hit a home run with the PS-1. Introduced in 1947, it set the standard for postwar American freight cars. What made the PS-1 a landmark was its welded construction — an area in which Pullman led the industry. In addition to lighter weight, welding offered superior strength and better resistance to weather and corrosion than contemporary riveted cars. Like the EMD diesels that became ubiquitous on American railroads, the PS-1 was part of the postwar shift away from customized, railroad-specific locos and cars toward standardized designs produced in large quantities on efficient assembly lines. No wonder the PS-1 was soon followed by the highly successful PS-2 covered hopper, PS-3 open hopper, PS-4 flatcar, and PS-5 gondola.

Announced Date:

January 2025

Released Date:

August 2026

Individually Boxed:

N/A

Road Name: Illinois Central

Road Number: 631730

Product Line: Athearn

Scale: HO Scale

Features:

• Separately applied mud flaps
• Rubber tires
• Highly-detailed, injection-molded body
• Painted and printed for realistic decoration

Overview:

The Z-van was originally available in a 40’ length; 45’ was offered later.
