The “5347” in the name refers to the car’s capacity in cubic feet, making it a larger boxcar compared to earlier FMC models such as the 5077 (also available from Atlas). These cars were very prominent during the “IPD” (incentive per diem) era. Many featured colorful paint schemes and logos, a welcome change from earlier eras when most boxcars were much plainer. FMC was acquired by Greenbrier in 1985.
