We have just learned that some of the recently shipped premier line AAR box cars may have one or both couplers that won't lock shut. We are not sure how many cars may have this issue, but we did find a few in our remaining inventory that exhibited this problem.
Below is a description of how to rectify any issues.
AAR box cars may need minor coupler adjustment
Item(s) affected: Premier AAR Boxcars deliver in March 2024, item numbers 20-99391 through 20-99395.
Discussion: Some boxcars are exhibiting an issue with one or more couplers not latching and holding.
Cause: The lock-bar is not engaging the knuckle when coupled.
Test: Manually depress the knuckle. If it fails to latch or latches and can be easily pulled open, perform the following corrective action.
Corrective Action: Place a small flat-blade screwdriver under the locking arm, opposite the tab used to manually open the coupler, as shown below. Pry up gently until the locking arm is flat. Test the coupler. If unsuccessful, pry the locking arm up a little more and test again. It is best to make this adjustment in small increments to achieve the necessary adjustment.
