With a wave of industry consolidation behind it, North American railroading has entered a modern era of heavy hauling. At the heart of the Evolution Series is a revolutionary prime mover: the four-cycle, 12-cylinder GEVO-12. Delivering the same massive 4,400 horsepower as its 16-cylinder FDL predecessor, the GEVO-12 consumes less fuel and reduces emissions by a staggering 40%. GE has boldly proclaimed the EVOs to be “the most fuel-efficient, most environmentally friendly diesel locomotives in history.” Re-thought from the ground up and backed by 25 new U.S. patents, every major Class I railroad has eagerly adopted them, with BNSF currently rostering the largest fleet.
