Overview:

In 1950, the Chicago and Northwestern extended it's famous fleet of "400" passenger trains to its furthest point with creation of the "Dakota 400." The train would provide daily service between Huron, South Dakota and Chicago. Traversing four states, the Dakota 400 put the Windy City in more comfort-able traveling distance from the plains, making it competitive with Milwaukee and the Twin Cities. The all-coach train featured a variety of services over the years and was usually pulled behind one or two of the Northwestern's many E units.
