Overview:

The early decades of the 20th Century were highly profitable times for the Lehigh Valley. Anthracite coal was in high demand around the country for home heating. The mills of western New York and eastern Pennsylvania were booming. And the "Route of the Black Diamond" was strategically placed to take advantage of all of this. Although best known as a coal road, the Valley handled merchandise and goods of all kind with connections to the busiest port terminals in New Jersey. From these big cities and industries, the railroad was also a personal lifeline and family road to thousands in small towns. Surrounded by much larger companies, the Lehigh Valley remained a fierce regional competitor right to the end. The railroad wasn't always flashy, but equipment showed the pride of the workers who depended upon it. Relive the glory years of the line with this new set from Lionel! Featuring a LEGACY Camelback locomotive, boxcar, three hoppers and caboose; this freight is typical of the daily trains on the system from the 1910s to 1920s. Perfect for small layouts, this scale set will have no troubles on tighter curves and look right at home on a small platform; though of course you could always add more freight if desired.
