Overview:

The M1s could be found just about anywhere, but no place felt more like "home" than the Middle Division. Rolling hills turned into deep valleys as the 4-track main line paralleled the Juniata River west on this vital central artery of the PRR's Broad Way. While not heavily dotted with large cities or industries, there were and are still plenty of notable customers along this busy rail highway. We couldn't make an all new release of M1's and not pay tribute to one of the Pennsy's most famous divisions! This set includes a LEGACY M1 featuring a postwar front end with cast pilot and 6-wheel long-haul tender. Three freight cars pay homage to online industries; Pennsylvania Glass Sand in Mapleton, Freedom Iron in Burnham (just off the mainline near Lewistown) and General Refractories in Mt. Union. Freedom Iron Company traced it's roots back to 1795 and became one of the first Bessemer furnaces in the US. Glass Sand is still quarried at Mapleton and shipped around the country today. While probably best known by rail-fans as the interchange point with the East Broad Top narrow gauge railroad, Mt. Union once featured several brick refractories. This boxcar is equipped with our FreightSounds features to add more fun to the train! An N5b cabin car with the distinctive yellow "pool service" cupola brings up the markers. Whether you model the Middle Division or not, this train is classic Pennsy from end-to-end!
