Overview:
Once as common on the rails as ES44s are today, the GP9 found a home on railroads large and small across America. Efficient and versatile, the GP9s were "steam killers" just about everywhere they went. The locomotive was universally accepted but also had many options to suit unique operating requirements. The GP9 was so reliable that hundreds enjoyed 40+ year careers, rebuild programs, sale and resale. Many are still working hard today! Lionel's latest release of GP9s includes a few popular returning road names and some new ones! Featuring deco schemes from the 1950s to the 1980s, this class shows the GP9's range of abilities. You'll find our GP9 as useful on your railroad as the prototype - but you don't have to retire your steam to get one!
