Overview:
EMD's first turbocharged Geep, the GP20 was among the first of the "second generation" of diesels. Many roads, like the Burlington and Cotton Belt, helped offset the costs of these new units by trading in FT's and other earlier EMD locomotives to contribute parts to the new machines. The GP20 saw wide success across many railroads in mainline service. Over the years many were subsequently rebuilt, some losing their turbos in the process, and diverted to secondary trains and locals. Dozens can still be found today on short lines across America. All new to the Lionel lineup, the GP20 features many road-specific details like dynamic brakes, Mars lights and rooftop details as appropriate. We've selected road names from a wide range of locales and eras to capture the full span of the GP20s' careers. With so many paint scheme and detail options, you can be sure you'll see more variations in the years to come! So turbocharge your roster with the first Lionel GP20s!
