Overview:

In the history of locomotion, the Fairbanks Morse TrainMasters were among a rare club of locomotives which seemed as at home hauling weekly commuters as they did heavy trains of iron ore. A dual-purpose locomotive like that would have been laughable in the age of steam. But for the TrainMasters it was all in a week's work. While many were purchased for passenger service, their look was all business. Instantly recognizable, the towering hulk of a TrainMaster has been part of Lionel's tradition for almost as long as they roamed the real rails. No Anniversary year would be complete without some TrainMasters! This catalog's offerings include some new paint schemes and returning classics we haven't run in more than a decade. We've also included some "grown up" versions of the Chicago & Northwestern and Milwaukee Road H16-66 "Baby TrainMasters" which shared the styling of their bigger siblings. All models feature road-specific details including lighting and walkway arrangements. Just like the prototype, these TrainMasters are ready to take on whatever assignment you can give them!
